Palliative Care South Australia (PCSA) is expanding its connection with Aboriginal communities.

During 2019 / 2020, staff have been reaching out to Aboriginal communities, visiting and talking to them about their interests in dying on country and how this can be supported.

As well as talking to Aboriginal Elders, PCSA has been interested in linking with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. A meeting in Adelaide of all SA based ACCHOs will be called in April 2020.

For more information on this please contact us.

To support this work PCSA is developing a stronger online presence by revamping its website page dedicated to providing information to the Aboriginal community including some video footage (to be launched mid of 2020)

PCSA has also started to deliver Cultural Awareness sessions to Specialist Palliative Care services by building a partnership with Parry Agius and Linking Futures. PEPA has been supporting this workshop development.

And in breaking new ground PCSA along with the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) have been successful in winning a grant to write a Train the Trainer package for Aboriginal Health Workers around palliative care (to commence in July 2020 – watch this space).
